Supposed to meet with Nastëna and go to the Tretyakov Gallery (and I invited Skee and Mulzoff -- but only got silence on those ends) -- but then I guess her university decided to throw a test at them, and naturally, she couldn't skip!
She asked to meet later -- but I was already on my way out, and I wanted to practice today -- and even if I could practice early, by the time I'd have gotten out and gotten to the Gallery, they wouldn't be selling tickets any longer. So, we just decided to say that we'll meet sometime soon, and do our best to make it happen.
Poor thing, she felt so badly about it!!
Early practice
Really good
But hip started to act up - so I called it and went home
Talked with one of My Marines on the way out -- found out why things didn't work out yesterday with Skee, and that Mulzoff was busy with work -- hence the quietness lately….
No luck with food
Moldy Grapes
Moldy Butter (which I bought on the way home, in order to make cookies!)
-- Of course, I didn't KNOW it was moldy when I bought it. I opened it to find that a corner was beginning to be colonized.
-- I was, understandably, very dismayed about this. I had cookies to make! And that was just displeasing to see…
Then, I thought of my Nana, and the lessons she's taught me in Life. One of which related to food. In sum, the Lesson was:
"If it's only a part that's moldy, don't be a wuss!!!"
(Which is to say, cut off the bad part, and use what's good.)
I Learned this lesson when I was visiting her one time -- I had grabbed a piece of fruit that had started to go bad (an orange). I went to go throw it away, and she stopped me, saying, "Look, it's just on the outside. The inside will still be fine." Then, she grabbed a knife, cut off the offending part of the fruit, and handed the rest back to me. Just as she had promised, it was just fine.
-- Speaking of Nana, and food -- I once saw her peel an orange, with the peel all in once piece. Ever since that moment, I've always strived to peel anything Citrus-y in one go, just like she did. I've almost got a 100% success rate! But every time I do it, I think of her -- and I've had a fair amount of oranges/clementines lately, so I've been thinking of her lots.
Back to the Bad Butter -- I pulled a Nana, cut off the bad part, *thoroughly* checked the rest of the butter, and hedged my bets on Nana's advice…

I made the famous "Moscow Kitty's Chocolate Cherry Oatmeal Cookies"
And they were a SUCCESS!!! Sweet, Tasty Success!!!! -- No cookies were claimed by the Soviet Oven this time!!
Though, it was hilarious - one cookie all but imploded on Elena (my host mum) as she picked it up to try! Definitely a, "broken cookie!"
[There is a joke, between some very good friends of mine and myself, that, when baking cookies, the ones we steal off of the cookie racks to eat are, "broken," or "defective," somehow, and *must* be eaten, for some kind of worldly good… Or something like that… He he he…]
Better still, my room now smells of fresh-baked, chocolate cookies and fresh (though uncut) pineapple. (The mini one from the Marine Corps Ball is still sitting on my desk… Ha ha ha!)

Tomorrow, I'll be going to see a musical version of, "The Count of Monte Christo!" I am so excited!!! Elena called me tonight, in the middle of making cookies, to confirm that she got the invitations taken care of! Pete should be coming with me. I think it's going to be a really fun day!!!
Also, I got an email tonight from one of my aunts, saying that she and her husband would be extending some plans by one day, just so that we could see each other when I am back State-side for a bit!! How kind of them!! I am so excited to get to see them!
Love,
Moscow Kitty
