Journal 87 - Snow Induced Heart Attacks and Happy Turtles!

Journal 87

Sunday - 11-21-10

One Way To Freak Yourself Out:

1. Live In Moscow
2. Notice it's snowing at 2 AM, but nothing is sticking
3. Wake up at Noon
4. Read this, at 1 PM - "I woke up and everything outside is white, cool!"
5. Immediately look out your window, and shout, "WHOA-MY-GOD!!!!" -- Because there is, in fact, Snow, EVERYWHERE!

You see, it was snowing at 2 AM, when I was getting dropped off from the Ball -- but nothing was sticking to the ground!

Actually, as it turned out, the trees all looked like they belonged in a Winter Wonderland, but nothing had really stuck to the ground. So, the ground was hideous, but if you kept looking up, the view was beautiful. =^___^=''

Movie With Masha (from the studio)!

Took the evening off from practice. Were going to go see "Social Network," but the theatre was sold out; so then I took us to the movie theatre by the Embassy (I'd never been to it before, just knew it was there.) Bought tickets for, "Eat, Pray, Love,' (In Russian, of course.) -- and then had an hour to kill. We walked around, to try to find a café or something, and I spotted a "Baskin' Robbins." Of course, we went in!!

I had a flavor called, "Happy Turtle." (Mostly, I got it for the name. He he he… Who could resist???)

Which reminds me - I don't even know when, but I asked my dance partner not too long ago, about how the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are called in Russian. Apparently, just "Ninja Turtles." The "Teenage" and "Mutant" parts, which I consider vital, are apparently not so, here!!

That randomness aside, I had a great time hanging out with Masha, and we said we'd try to do something like that again soon.

["My grandma walks faster than you... And she's dead!!" -- Best line from, "Eat, Pray, Love." Somehow, even more hilarious in Russian.]

Tried to get a hold of Vitaly, like he'd told me to do, about lessons for tomorrow -- but I couldn't get through to him. I guess he wasn't back yet when I tried to call.

Sometime after midnight, I saw Elena (one of the trainers from the studio) pop onto Facebook, and we started chatting. She said they had only just gotten back from Austria! (Where the comp was this weekend.) She and her partner had made it into the final, but she said that Vitaly and Dasha had only made it into the semi-final, and that he was upset about it.

Naturally, this has me afraid that a repeat of the events after the Russian Open is set to occur… I hope he doesn't take his frustrations out on me again...
