Journal 62 - Mistake Of Nature

Journal 62

10-27-10

Class -

Tamara E. seems to be getting happier and happier with me

Galina and I started reading "The Brothers Karamazov"

Isolda also was really really happy with me -- for my ability to figure out words from finding their roots.

Lessons with a different person (Artëm) -- basically changed almost the whole rumba routine that Vitaly gave us so far (because I guess one of the studio bosses told Artëm there were some things we weren't allowed at the level we'll be dancing at - but Vitaly gave them to us anyway?). I had a bad feeling about that... I still do...

I had a feeling Roma was going to like working with Artëm more, as the lesson went on. They're a little more similar in body styles, than Roma is to Vitaly, and while the other day, Vitaly was just kind of throwing the routine together/at us, Artëm was taking the time to make sure Roma was going to move/lead exactly how it should be.

I don't mind so much attention being paid to the lead -- after all, a better lead for me means I'll look better! -- and I figure I'll get more attention when it's necessary. (Which I did, later in the lesson.)

We had a laugh about getting Roma to touch me -- he's a bit timid when it comes to that whole, "Sneak up on her (at the beginning of the routine), and grab her!" -- He doesn't really "come and get me," so to speak, so there's almost no energy for me to react to. *laughs* So I turned around and went and "got" him, at one point, and Artëm looked at us and said, "Yeah! Like that!" Ha ha ha ha!

I wish I knew if there was a translation for, "I don't have cooties! Touch me!" -- But I don't think there is, so I just settled for teasingly yelling at Roma, "Touch meeee!"

Practice - Artëm was kind enough to come help us more, just because he wanted to! Reminded me of back home, when we used to ask each other for help, and people would help, just because they wanted to see someone get better.

Metro ride home - Platypus - Utkanos (Duck Nose)

Shared English's, "the platypus is a mistake of nature." -- Artëm and Roma both about died laughing. Apparently, they don't make fun of the platypus like we do.

"Why? [is it a mistake of nature?]" They asked -

"Well… Look at it! A nose like a duck (i.e. - a bill), it lays eggs, and look at its feet!"

Although, it wasn't quite so simple as that. I had to go on a round about adventure, trying to get them to tell me how to say, "to lay eggs." Ha haha, that was almost painful. But hilarious.

Got home, helped Namig (Masha's partner) with some info about buying cell phones in the US, just with cash. (Turns out he's going to the US for a bit of a business trip, and that's why he wanted to know about it.) So, that was fun.

Got to talk to Nicole some, through Facebook posts, I was so happy!!!
