Journal 83

4-8-10

Angelo, I was thinking of you, while I about died of laughter this morning -- I heard "The Godfather Theme" on my way to school this morning, as I passed the music shop!!!!! Did you know that they also play some electric bells version of it at my dance studio -- I think as a sign that either lessons or breaks are over. Ha ha ha! Looks like I can't get away from you, even here! =^_~=

I've mentioned before that the people in my group can be quite funny before, yes? Today was certainly a day I was thanking my lucky stars for them, thanks to the following gem, which occurred during Grammar today:

(Background -- We were doing exercises with our teacher, where she was giving us example sentences, and we were supposed to fill in with certain verbs…)

Teacher: "Я плохо ------"

Student: "-- Знаю."

For the non-Russian speakers, the translated version of that conversation goes:

Teacher: "I badly/don't really _____"

Student: "-- Know."

-- God bless you, Anya! Oh, what a candid moment!!!! We were all laughing for so long...

In SMI, we started watching a very interesting, but terribly sad, film about a Holocaust survivor from Minsk. It's essentially him telling the story of his life. It's just been incredible so far. When I have the rest of the story, I'll probably put it up here to tell you all about it.

As far as plans for the day and future go:

Sergei (One of my DJ friends, from Hustle) invited me to Shashlik on Sunday! Having Shashlik, for anyone who doesn't know, is most simplistically compared to having a Barbecue. It is DELICIOUS! (I had it in the States, once, with a Russian friend.) So, I'm pretty excited to actually have Shashlik here in Russia! =^__^=

I practiced, and then went to go meet up with Lissay to say goodbye again, as he's leaving tomorrow. :(

When I showed up at the house, no one else was around -- some of them had gone out earlier, and other people had wound up having to work; so we were just hanging out. I showed him the Salsa basic ('cause he asked) -- and that was fun!

Not too long after that, Tito showed up, and he was playing Bachatas (He's a big fan of the genre.); and then Derek came out, too -- so the four of us went to Starlight Diner (My first time there!) to get milkshakes and/or Hot Fudge Brownie Sundaes. (Tito got both -- everyone else at the table was saying, "That's gonna hurt [tomorrow]." Ha ha ha!!!)

(Starlight Diner is a little chain of American Diners here in Moscow. An Ex-Pat haven, I suppose! The Hot-Fudge Brownie Sundae was heaven!)

(Randomly: I heard a really awesome techno song while we were there -- but I barely got any lyrics, so I'm terribly afraid that I won't find it at all… :( !! The chorus was beautiful in a very haunting way. )

Eventually, we left to get Lissay home to finish backing, and me home to not be out all night. It was sad to have to say goodbye to Lissay so soon after being introduced; but one can hardly complain about making new friends!! We'll look each other up when we're back in the States. =^__^=

Once I arrived home, I got my dinner, and then hit the hay.
