Journal 74

3-30-10

So, today, I *finally* got around to biting the bullet, and buying the 4G Yota internet -- my last chance for getting high-speed Internet at home / in general here in Moscow.

The Internet REALLY hates me here, you know? Ha ha ha, you couldn't IMAGINE the tribulations I've had!

Buying it actually went pretty easily; but I checked to make sure that I could return it if it didn't work. I didn't want to loose anymore money!

I got home, opened everything up -- and lo and behold, the literature says that one must have a Windows computer for Yota to work!!!!!!! (… I, obviously, have a Mac…)

Not to be deterred -- although, already displeased -- I switched over to the Windows partition of my computer. I figured that I'd already come that far, so I may as well at least TRY to get the Yota working.

Alas, it was not to be. My Soviet-Era, "Your Death Waves Cannot Reach Us Here!!!" Apartment Building thoroughly quashed any signal from reaching me.

Russia! You win again!!! *shakes her fist*

So now, I will have to return the Yota. Good, God -- why does the Internet hate me so???

Luckily, there were better parts of my day!

While in Video, Professor Sypik invited me to come out to some Modern Dance shows with him that evening. It seems that his friend worked in the theatre they would be at (there is a festival of some sorts going on), and got free tickets for the performance! While modern dance isn't my very favorite thing in the world, I certainly wouldn't turn down getting to go to a show! (Can't turn one's nose up at a free chance at a good experience!)

The two shows weren't bad, and certainly, the dancers were good -- I was happier to have had the chance to chat with my professor, and I heard a really awesome song during the second show! ("Just A Little Samba," Ugly Duckling -- look it up!) I actually wound up asking my professor why he became a teacher -- among the reasons he gave was that he loved to travel, and it was easier for teachers (of Russian as a foreign language) to travel during Soviet times.

I went off to Hustle after that, where unfortunately, Maxim was still missing!!! Yuri told me he would be there next week though! I certainly hope so! … Then I think he was teasing me about something to do with that Maxim liked me (at least, dancing with me) -- and used a word that I think translates to "compulsion?" Suffice it to say, everyone who heard it was certainly laughing about it. (I think it was something to the effect of, we haven't been dancing, and now he's got a compulsion [to come dance with me] -- or something close to that.)

I also wound up having an interesting chat with Yuri about whether or not I'll be having kids. How do I get into this conversation with people?!?! According to him, it would basically be a travesty if someone like myself *didn't* have children. He also said he thinks I'll get married in the States, because, "…That's where you are from…"

What a night, that's for sure!

I wound up leaving a little early, because my hip was hurting, and I have a lesson tomorrow! I need to be in good shape for that!!!

Much love,

Moscow Kitty
