Journal 49

3-11-2010; No Time

** I'm writing this on 3-20-10 -- and I have to say, I don't know *how* it happened, but I apparently forgot to write my journal for today!! I'm thinking that it's because the only really important thing that happened was the second meeting with the other head trainer/owner of the dance studio, and I verbally told so many people about it, I must have forgotten I needed to write it down. So, without any further ado:

The first half of the day was full of classes -- although the only real highlight of the day was the fact that we wound up getting side-tracked in CMI, and spent the whole time talking about serial killers -- with the brunt of the time focused on Jeffrey Dahmer, and the argument that he wasn't a cannibal. Our professor had said that, while in the US, most people flat out label Dahmer a cannibal, in Russia, that wasn't the case. He went on to explain this as saying that true cannibalism is defined as the seeing of human beings as food/a food source, and using them as such; while for someone like Dahmer, the consumption of flesh was more related to his sexual practices, and thus was not (true) cannibalism. One of the girls in my group took up pretty strongly against our professor, and his stance -- but well, that's what makes for a good debate, doesn't it? We also spent a little bit of time discussing the American Media's love affair with all things serial-killer related -- which, I'd have to say, I'd agree with. Nothing makes tons of money for people in the media/ book writings / t.v. specials / research / etc. like a good serial killer.

Suffice it to say -- we never have a boring day in that class!

Concerning the dance meeting, Irina and I met up at 7 PM and headed over to the dance studio.

Once there, we met with Larissa, the other owner of the studio, and Aleck's former partner, if I'm not much mistaken.

We went through the general information bits: 'How old are you?' 'How tall are you?' "What is your budget?' 'What do you want to do?'

And in the end, we settled that:

* I will have two lessons a week, for $100 USD total

* Larissa will look for a dance partner for me, but there are no promises

* I will be taking lessons with someone named Vitalii.

Ha ha, of course, how that got arranged is quite funny…

Once I'd told Larissa my budget (E.g. what I could and could not afford to spend per week), she looked through her contacts book, and told me, "I think I'm going to set you up with Vitalii -- but let me call him and find out how much his lessons are."

So, she calls him. Somewhere in the middle of the conversation (which is all being conducted in Russian), I hear her say, "Oh, yes -- she's a very, very pretty girl!" -- about a minute later -- "Wait --!! Why are you asking if she's pretty or not?!?"

Ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!! I was a little embarrassed about it, but it was also *really* funny.

Of course, when she hung up the phone, she looked at me and said, "He's very handsome."

I was thinking, It was like I was getting matched up or something!

-- And, by the way, because I figured some of you would be wondering: I asked, and Larissa said she thinks he's somewhere between 23 and 25. --

Larissa gave me Vitalii's number after that, and told me that I could call him to set up my first lesson at any point after that.

With that, our business was concluded, and Irina and I headed home.

**********

On my way home, I actually ran into Polina on the Metro! We were laughing the whole way home, because I was telling her about my meeting at the dance studio.

After I'd mentioned that Vitalii had asked if I was pretty, that Larissa had told me he was handsome, and not much older than myself, Polina said, "He's just for you!!!"

I was a little shocked, and I looked at her and said, "Polina, he's going to be my teacher!!" (You know, besides the fact that I've never even seen him before.)

She just laughed and said, "So?! That doesn't matter here!! [I.e. - In Russia]"

We laughed more, and I teased her, "Well, fine -- but what if he's already got a girlfriend!"

Polina just grinned and said, "Well, then, she *won't* be, and you *will* be!!"

We both all but collapsed in a fit of giggles -- mine, shocked, and hers, cunning -- and I realized: Russian Women and Girls are certainly something!!

--- All that said, while I have still have no idea as to why Vitalii asked if I was pretty or not, I certainly have no untoward plans with him! I have more important things to worry about: like having him catch me up to being a proper Latin Dancer!!!

And that's the 11th of March!

Moscow Kitty; from the 20th
