Journal 44

I. Am. Exhausted.

Classes --

We watched some very interesting Videos in Literature today. (We have the same professor for Literature as we do for Video, so it wasn't really all that odd.) They were from a group of 5 vignettes about Love, done by 5 of the most famous directors in Russia. We watched 2 of them -- and they were both pretty interesting in their own way:

The first one was about a deaf man who worked in a shoe repair shop. He never really worked with the customers, just the shoes -- but there is one pair of shoes he works with, that he knows belong to a certain girl (whose feet we see). Anyway, the understanding is that he falls in love with her, at least, through the shoes.

There's a very touching part, where he takes all the different kind of shoes there in the workshop, and much like a child playing with dolls, plays with them, as though they were people -- with a happy ending for two of them, of course.

Unfortunately, this film did not have a happy ending for the man… In sum, he gets into an accident in the shop, when the girl comes to get her shoes -- one of his hands gets crushed in one of the machines. When she comes in to get her shoes, she is on the phone at first, and takes no notice of the fact that his hand is dripping blood -- and when she speaks to him, she doesn't realize he is deaf… Eventually, using his uninjured hand, the man gives her her shoes, and she leaves -- and he collapses into what is, by that point, a very large pool of his own blood. The film ends there, with us unsure of the hero's fate -- whether he will live or die…

It was well-done, but how heart-wrenching!!!!!

The second film followed a young man who worked for a restaurant, which started with a clip of his boss telling him he'd better not mess up anymore, and he has one more chance to get things right.

Cut to us seeing the same young man dressed up in a shrimp suit (for the restaurant). Apparently (from what our professor told us), his boss told him to bring in customers any way he could… … And he winds up starting to kiss people!! (Full on, girls or guys!) -- So, he gets beat up quite a bit… = O-o =

He winds up kissing one girl at one point, who then goes and jumps off of the bridge they are standing on -- it seems that she was running away from a lover/boyfriend/someone she obviously didn't want to be around anymore. Shortly after the guy she was running from makes an appearance, Shrimp-Guy jumps off the bridge too, and finds the girl again.

They wind up hitching a ride on a (garbage) boat, and turn into something of an odd-duck pair.

It was just a little weird, but kind of sweet in its own way.

Other Highlights of the day?

-- I got one of the songs I fell in love with at one of the Hustle parties!! It is called, "How Many Loves" by Naomi -- and it is so beautiful!!!!

-- Sasha gave me a lecture about walking alone to/from the Hustle parties…. So, for all of you who worry about me at home -- I'm getting the same lectures here! Ha ha ha ha!

-- Yay, Pete will be back from the US soon!

-- I went to the Internet Café today, and chatted with my wonderful friends Nicole and Marc!! (Bless them for giving some advice concerning Zhenya -- *laughs*)

-- Texted some with Aleksei - always good to hear from him. (He's the nice, and cute one I ran into before, remember?)

I had a late dinner, and did some homework -- here at the end of the day, I'm just exhausted.

Bedtime now.
