Journal 36

2-16-10

Today, we had Class; and then our weekly, after-school meeting.

Upcoming events:

**It's a 4 day weekend, because of the upcoming holiday on Tuesday (Basically, "Men's Day" -- the answer to "International Women's Day," on March 8th.); BUT we'll have to go to school next *Saturday* to make up for one of the days, and it will be *MONDAY*'s schedule.

If you think that's odd -- the TV is going to do the same thing: On Mon, they're going to be showing Saturday's normal programming, and next Saturday, they will show Monday's programs!

**Friday --Trip to Etnomir ("Ethno World) -- essentially, Russia's "Epcot" for itself. *Early* meet time (8 am), but it will be a 2 hr. bus ride there and back. Should be interesting!

**Saturday -- City bus tour -- in English (So we'll understand! Hooray!) -- but it's also really early… We have to meet at the University dorms at 8:45 AM!! I'm going to try and tape the thing, if I can.

**Sunday -- Nothing going on -- so I can take a breather, work on my journals, and do some hw.

(2-21-2010 Note: Actually, I'm supposed to be going dancing with Svetlana's brother tonight! And when it comes to the journals, I've been doing just that -- working, working, working!!! Over 8 hours of work again, between yesterday and today!!!)

**Monday -- I will be going cross country skiing for the first time! Vika invited us all to go. Thankfully, we will be meeting at 11:30 AM. Some of my Host Family (Igor + Polina, at least) might come.

**Tuesday -- Try to breathe more, and do homework!!!!

Other results from the meeting:

It seems that I may be helping to teach someone English/be a conversation partner, once a week or so; but I should be getting compensated, at least a little bit, for my time. In a situation where we're not supposed to be allowed to work, any income is going to be good income!! =^__^=

I'm also hoping that the Internet stuff Igor gave me will be worth something; John has it now, along with my student Metro card application (I hope that goes through, too…) -- Now I'm doing a lot of waiting, it seems.

Once I arrived home, I tried to get a nap, as I was exhausted from my afternoon:

In sum: Beeline LIES about where they have coverage!!! I went to their store to check what Metro stations they had coverage in, but none of the 3 that I looked at did! Nor did they have any place to sit down, anyway! (Well, one did, at least.)

So by the time I got home, as I said, I wanted to get a nap! But THEN Anya SMSed me that figure skating was on!!!! -- It was like having a bucket of cold water thrown on me!!! I dashed from my bed, out into the living room, and managed to trip over my words enough to say that figure skating was on, to Olga and Polina. They got the t.v. on the proper channel for me, and I got to see China take the 1-2 spots for Pairs skating!

I worked with Polina tonight, on an assignment of mine, this time! It was an "autobiography," after the style of a piece we read in Literature -- Chelovek Nikto. I'm actually really proud of it.

I had a little problem however, because the way that Polina helped, was that she took what I had written, and then re-wrote it, as a Russian would have done it. It'd have been cheating to just re-copy that -- so I basically made a hybrid version of my rough draft, and the "fluent Russian" version. It takes a long time to write something with purposefully-placed mistakes!!!!!!!!

I underlined all the parts that came directly/mostly directly from Polina (i.e. that I wouldn't have known, save for her help); just to give the teacher an idea of the things that weren't entirely from me. I'm sure he'd have figured it out anyway, but still. I also turned in my rough draft, and Polina's draft, so he could see how everything came together. I still think it turned out really nicely, no matter how you look at it; and I was doubly pleased that there were some parts that Polina didn't change at all, or that she liked herself!!

A few hours later -- Those hours spent on just the one assignment!!! And a bit on a few other little things -- it was time to crash!
