Journal 12

February 2, 2010; 1:23 AM

We have *got* to stop meeting like this, my journal! I should have been in bed at LEAST half an hour ago! So now this has to be very very brief!

I've been un-packing since around 10:30-11 ish or so, maybe? Moving like a herd of turtles, as always happens in this family. Granted, somewhere around 12:00 ish I started moving like a herd of turtles towards getting ready for bed… And by 12:26, I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth, when all of a sudden…

… You know those moments in cartoons, movies, t.v. shows, etc., where a character is standing around doing something, and just out of NOWHERE a realization of some kind hits them? … Yeah, at 12:26 AM, with my mouth full of toothpaste suds, and my pink flamingo and palm tree pajamas from my Nana on, I had the following thought: "Holy s*&t, I really did move half way around the world, and I'm standing in a veritable stranger's home in Moscow, wearing pink flamingo and palm tree pajamas, brushing my teeth."

I guess nothing makes a move hit home like those little things, huh?

If you've been paying attention to the phrases I've dropped such as, "un-packing" and "in a veritable stranger's home in Moscow," those of you playing at home will have deduced that I successfully moved into my host family's house! They're *quite* lovely!
Skele-Notes:

*We got up later today

*Had one last lecture on host families --

**Laundry/Plumbing = drama
**Two famous questions in all of Russian History ("What to do?""Who to blame?")

*Got my cell phone working!!!

* Bought wi-fi -- but I have NO wi-fi signal at host family house!!

* Had lunch at Yolki-Polki again --
**Piroshki (Bread rolls filled with different stuffings; meat, cabbage, fruits, etc.) + Blini (Like Crêpes, but Russian.)

*Re-packed

*Failed at Russian T9, after almost succeeding! (Trying to type a Diminutive form of a name didn't go so well….)

*Met my host family!!!
**Olga Anatolievna (Mom) + Polina/Pol'ya (Daughter, 16) cameto get me from the dorm, and take me to their apartment
**Met their Schnauzer, Bonee ((Bon-yeh-yeh)) (Bonnie -- likefrom "Gone With The Wind"), and Igor (Dad)

*My *goodness,* I LOVE my room --
**It's HUGE!!! But no piano anymore...**There's a REALLY pretty Chandelier, with a *Snowflake* wind-chime hanging down from it!! (Family willunderstand the"Snowflake" significance.)

*Had dinner --
**Soup (some chicken + cut spaghetti noodles in chicken broth)
**Then slight curry chicken + rice; bread; cucumbers((ogryushki)) (It was all SOOO tasty!!!)

*I talked a bit with Olga about what I can/can't eat

*Went off to go buy a flower w/ Polina, for Olga (Because it had been Olga's Birthday the day before I came!!!)
**Polina said, "I don't like flowers -- they are just going to die --it's not interesting!" -- Which is a way I'd never looked at itbefore. At least, I'd never said it like that.

*Found the coffee house where I might have been able to get internet

*Walked Bonee w/ Polina
**Chatted!!!
*** "'Your english is better than my Russian!" -- "No way!!Your Russian is better than my English!!" -- We decided weboth need practice speaking. -- (But really, her Englishis better than my Russian!!!)

***Grammar lesson! "К нам!" ((K nam!)) (Lit. "To us!" - Fig."Come [here]!!")

*Met a random Russian Babushka and her dog

*Talked about the construction going on -- there are new, sky-scraper-type buildings going up
**Polina doesn't like them -- she's right though: they're out ofplace. They'd be pretty if they were "... someplace else… Butthey don't belong here. They ruin the look of everything…"

Overall? GREAT day!!! Olga seems very nice, and understanding (and patient!!!); and Polina is so sweet, fun to be around, and to chat with!!! Igor seems like a really good guy -- although, not as chatty (duh); and of course, Bonee's pretty cute.

But now -- I'm sorta chilly -- and need to be in bed… Up at 8!

Much Love,
Moscow Kitty; 1:34 AM
